Exam Revision
We offer several publications which will be very useful in helping your pupils to revise for exams.
By “exams” we’re referring to
a) the GCSE music exam which in the UK is taken by Year 11 pupils (ie those aged between 15 and 16), and
b) the end-of-year exams which many schools devise and set annually for each year group.
First up, there’s the Music Revision Dictionary which is a unique idea - it’s a photocopiable dictionary featuring over 400 music terms and words. Pupils can have a personal copy - and for each entry they can tick off and date when each term or word has been understood.
Then there’s the Music Fact Book - a collection of musical terms and meanings which have been mixed up. Pupils have to un-mix them, which makes sure they really understand each one.
We have had a large amount of feedback from many schools who utilise several of our other publications in exam situations. Here are a few examples:
Several schools we know about use selected modules from Listen In! to provide a novel end-of-year exam for their Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils. They play the recorded modules and the whole year group writes their responses to selected tests. To the pupils, it’s a novel exam - much more exciting than a completely written exam conducted in total silence!
We have also heard from schools who like to use the We Love Theory Puzzle Book for their end-of-year exams. They duplicate the Musical Crossword, and the whole year-group fill in the crossword as their written music exam! Again, the kids find that doing a crossword makes a welcome change from the usual type of written exam.
